Philanthropy in Action
Postcode Anywhere has a firm commitment to the community on a local, national and international scale. Corporate Social Responsibility is taken very seriously and we encourage each staff member to become involved in the various schemes and programmes that we support.
We provide our address validation and geo-coding services at a subsidised rate to over 200 not-for-profit organisations and have provided it free to many high profile charities including Comic Relief, Oxfam, the Blue Peter Appeal, UNICEF and WWF.
We also believe in “getting our hands dirty” and are involved with many good causes on a very close basis.
Charitable activities are structured so we can help a diverse range of people with differing needs. This includes groups such as the elderly, children and young people, those with disabilities, the vulnerable, the terminally sick, mentally ill and the socially disadvantaged.
Last Choir Standing Corporate Event 2011
Our major fundraiser, The Last Choir Standing, takes place in November and is a singing competition to find the best corporate choir in the area. Now in its third year, the event was conceived by Postcode Anywhere’s Head of CSR Angela Davis, and has raised over £20,000 for blood cancer charity, Leukaemia CARE. We will be starting our rehearsals soon and are also building and hosting the Last Choir Standing Corporate Event 2011 website.
Food for thought
Our new project, serving food at St. Paul’s Hostel, Worcester - which provides accommodation and support for the homeless - is proving to be very rewarding. It has really opened our eyes to the terrible plight of homeless people and the social stigma they suffer for circumstances that are quite often beyond their control. We’re really enjoying our after- office hours shifts helping to serve supper : it’s hard work but we’ve been given a warm welcome.
Engaging with schools
Recently the company hosted a very successful Internet Enterprise Activity Day where students from The Chase, a local comprehensive school took part in a business challenge called The Dragons’ Apprentice. Fifteen Year 10 students were asked to build a web page promoting a Smart Phone App. Once they had completed their challenge, in teams of two, they had to present their ideas to the Dragons a.k.a. Postcode Anywhere directors Guy Mucklow, Jamie Turner and Rachael Mackwell. The Dragons were so impressed with the way the students applied themselves and came up with some really quite sophisticated concepts. In the end they decided to invest their hard earned cash in both enterprises.
Young Enterprise
We have been supporting Y.E. on a national and regional level since 2006 and many of the team have been involved in Young Enterprise initiatives including the delivery of its wide- range of classroom based programmes.
This academic year, two of our developers were business advisors at The Chantry High School. Their company Brainwave was very successful, winning both the Team and the Best Financial Director awards in the area finals. Students from The Chase were the proud recipients of our IT awards and bursaries at the area and regional competitions.
The Prince’s Trust
Postcode Anywhere continues to support the Prince’s Trust. In January we gave them a donation from the money we raised by participating in the Birmingham Half Marathon. We intend to get involved with two more physical challenges that the Trust are hosting this year.
Guy Mucklow
Managing Director
“Our philosophy is not just about giving money. We invest our time with a genuine desire to bring a smile to those who feel abandoned or marginalised. Sometimes the gesture may appear small and seemingly insignificant, but it can make a huge difference to those we are trying to help”
Last year we raised money, gave gifts and discounted services to the value of £38,000. We also invested approximately 750 hours of our time in community projects.
We intend that our CSR achievements will mirror our success as a business as Postcode Anywhere continues to go from strength-to-strength.
