Postcode Anywhere has a firm commitment to the community on a local, national and international scale. Corporate Social Responsibility is taken very seriously and we encourage each staff member to become involved in the various schemes and programmes that we support.

We provide our address validation and geo-coding services at a subsidised rate to over 200 not-for-profit organisations and have provided it free to many high profile charities including Comic Relief, Oxfam, the Blue Peter Appeal, UNICEF and WWF. We also believe in “getting our hands dirty” and are involved with many good causes on a very close basis.

Our charitable activities within the community and beyond are structured so we can help a diverse range of people with differing needs. This includes groups such as the elderly, children and young people, those with disabilities, the vulnerable, the terminally sick, mentally ill and the socially disadvantaged.

Our philosophy is not just about making altruistic gestures by giving money. We invest our time with a genuine desire to bring a smile to those who feel socially abandoned or marginalised. Sometimes the gesture may appear small and seemingly insignificant, but it can make a huge difference to those we are trying to help. Whatever we do, for whoever we do it for, we always have lots of fun along the way.

Leukaemia Care

Our major fund raiser the Last Choir Standing Corporate Event held at Worcester Rugby Club in October will be repeated this year on 4th November 2010, when we hope to beat last year’s total of nearly £10,000 for blood cancer charity Leukaemia CARE.

The Postcode Anywhere choir made a valiant effort with our 60s repertoire including California Dreamin, Down Town and Return to Sender (which is what happens to your mail if you don’t use postcode validation).

Young Enterprise

On a national and regional level we regularly support educational charity Young Enterprise.

We have been involved with Y.E. since 2006 and many of our staff have mentored Young Enterprise initiatives. In 2009 we both funded and delivered a YE classroom-based activity called Primary Programme. Additionally we present Young Enterprise with two major awards (bursaries) every year for the Best Use of IT in their Area Board and Strategic Company Programme competition finals.

The Prince’s Trust

Events that we supported in 2010 included hosting a Technology Enterprise Day for the Prince’s Trust at our offices in May, as well as sponsoring and mentoring a Prince’s Trust young entrepreneur. Our MD, Head of Finance and 4 others took part in Capgemini’s “Wild Challenge” a three-day test of endurance, navigation and mental challenges that involved hiking, biking, walking and kayaking 100 miles across stretches of Somerset and Devon which raises funds for the Trust.

Manor Park School, Worcester

We undertook an ambitious landscaping project at a local school for children with profound physical and mental disabilities. Out of office hours i.e. weekends and after work we transformed the garden at Manor Park School, in Worcester. The original ornamental garden and area where there was a potting shed and poly-tunnel had been persistently vandalised. The pupils and staff were thrilled with the results and we have maintained contact with the school since through ongoing maintenance of the garden.

Other CSR events include a substantial donation to Helen & Douglas House, the UK’s first Children’s Hospice that provides vital respite and end of life care for children and young adults. The money was raised as a result of a corporate sailing event. For the past couple of years we have also supported elderly members of our community by singing carols, waiting on table and providing gifts of chocolates to residents of two local homes for the elderly.

As our CSR activities have become such an important part of our day-to-day operations, we have appointed Angela Davis to organise, co-ordinate them and manage the budget allocation because we have a genuine belief that we must give back to the community.
