General

General options

This is the screen where your account details are entered. Simply type your account code (typically five letters followed by five numbers) and your license key (including hyphens) in the appropriate boxes in this window to use the software. Note: these fields aren't case-sensitive, but we think capital letters look neater!

The other option on this page is to clear your search history. When you search for an address your searches are saved and can be recalled later. The Clear button here will remove all previous searches so people can't see who you're sending Christmas / birthday cards to.

Connection

Connection options

If you use a proxy server to connect to the internet then you need to tell the Postcode Anywhere Client software how to connect to our web services. You can do this by entering your proxy server login details on this screen. If you don't know what a proxy server is you probably don't use one and the normal connection option will be fine!

Service

Service settings

Our default web service address is http://services.postcodeanywhere.co.uk but we currently have 2 different hosting centres that this relates to. If you have problems connecting to the default web service the software can automatically try 2 other addresses to make sure your lookups are always working.

Check the service information in our developers section to see which IP addresses you can use to access the service at our different hosting centres.

Startup

Service settings

Postcode Anywhere can run automatically when you start your PC so that it's ready to lookup addresses when you type in a postcode. This can be turned on and off as you wish with the change taking effect when you next log in to your PC.

For large users the Postcode Anywhere Enterprise software may be installed on a server. If this is the case Postcode Anywhere Client can automatically link itself to the appropriate server at startup.

Another setting relates to how Postcode Anywhere Client can be opened. In addition to using the recogniser lookups can be initiated with a search key press. The key combination can be set here, e.g. Ctrl + K (that's "K" for "Killer App").

Interface

Service settings

These settings control how the Postcode Anywhere Client software operates. Firstly, the advanced search window has an auto-complete function which works as you type in the fields enabling you to pick the correct field (street for example) from a matching list. This can be disabled if it slows things down for you.

It is also possible to change the way the text filtering works. By default the filter will run on any part of the address, but this can be changed so that it only looks at company and building details. This will avoid confusion if building names are the same as the street or location name.
