Get started with our address validation software
Getting started with our Desktop Client software is easy. All you need to do is download and install the software, enter your account details or sign-up when prompted, and you're ready to go.
Before you start
This guide will get you started with our Desktop Client software by giving you a brief overview of what it can do. To see what it can do in more detail you can download the full user guide here.
1. Installation
The Postcode Anywhere Desktop Client software is designed to run in the background on your machine and can be setup to populate address data into your applications when triggered. Once you have installed the software it should start running automatically. To open it up simply double click on the envelope with the magnifying glass icon in your system tray.
2. Basic searching
The quickest and easiest way to search for an address is using the search box. Simply type in a postcode and hit return. The client will then bring up the list of addresses covered by the postcode.
To select the address double click on the address within the list or use the up and down arrows to move through the list and press return.
The address will then be shown in the bottom of the search window.
Valid searches
When using the search box you can enter more than just the postcode. Valid searches are:
- postcode
- company name
- street, town
- street, outcode (the first part of the postcode)
- building, street, town
- building, street, outcode
3. Using our software with your software
Looking-up addresses is even better when you can use those addresses in your day-to-day applications and processes. Thanks to our Recogniser technology this is something that anyone can do.
To get started simply open your application, type a postcode in the appropriate field and press the spacebar. This initiates an address search based on the postcode you just typed. If you've not used the Postcode Anywhere Desktop Client software in your application before you first need to tell it how you want it to work.
Follow the steps through to decide how you want the software to format the desired address and where and how it should be used. Don't worry if you make a mistake here as once you've created a rule to use you can modify it later if you need to.
What you should now see when you type a postcode into your application followed by the spacebar is a list of address results from which you can select the desired address.
When you select an address it will be inserted into your application according to the steps in your Recogniser rule - simple!
Of course, there is a lot more that you can do with our software. For a more detailed look at what it can do download the full user guide here. And don't forget, if you get stuck we're just a phone call away!
